THE CUCKOLDS LIGHT - Maine

Location: Cape Newagen / Booth Bay Approach - Southport
Currently Operational: Yes
Height: 59 feet
Year Established: 1892

The Cuckolds Light, an historic Maine lighthouse, sits atop the rocky islets off Southport Island. Cuckolds Light was built in 1892 as a fog signal station to assist sailors navigating through the dangerous waters off Boothbay Harbor. A fourth-order Fresnel lens light tower was added in 1907. The lighthouse was automated in 1975 and then was decommissioned shortly after that.

Restoration between 2010 and 2014 revived the keeper's house and wharf and turned the place into a unique attraction. Cuckolds Light remains today as a symbol of maritime history and a testament to how challenging the sailors' life was back then. The lighthouse still exhibits a flashing white light as an active aid to navigation.
